new year, new layout. and to celebrate we thought we'd give out a free vampire sushi poster (made by carl) with every order in the month of january! the original cut and paste job, which is on our wall, looks a little like this:
unfortunately there have been no new zines since culture slut #25 came in stock just before christmas, but we'll be re-stocking old stuff and getting new stock soon. (doesn't mean you should hold on to yr orders though, we need do funds for the new zines!)
anyway, hope you've had a nice 2011 and an even better 2012 to come. we sure have had fun at tabling at zine fests (not as many as we'd like cos travel costs money and sometimes you just don't have enough to spare) and reading all these amazing zines and getting to share them with y'all. keep on making and reading zines, and if you're not making them yet, get your pen and paper and glue stick out and make one!
oh and any problems with the layout, please let us know. we tried to make a mobile friendly version too, but i'm not sure how functional it is. seems to work fine on an ipod.

the main theme is vampires but other monsters & horror creatures / themes are welcome too. anything related to twilight is not welcome, unless its taking the piss out of sparkly 'vampires'.

first of all, my deepest apologies for the extremely late orders. a bunch of them have been sent out today, i'm trying to sort out the rest asap (out of stock zines, you see.) i wish i had a good reason why i have been so behind on stuff, but i don't really. may seems to be one of those months. seriously though, very embarrassed by the lack of organization. will try harder to do better & be more organized & on the ball from now on.
anyway. we've just been to the zine fest at the women's library last week and it was lovely. our first time attending said zine fest, i think last year it clashed with something in the end, and stopped us from going..

sorry we're somewhat behind on distro stuff at the moment, it has been a hectic week! we'll be tabling at TYPICAL GRRLS on thursday 3rd feb at poco loco (58 high street, chatham) typical grrls is a grrl / genderqueer friendly riot grrl club night organized by our very own tukru & emma (of fanzine ynfytyn) and this very first one is being put together on somewhat short notice (hence being a bit pre-occupied & behind on stuff! also, tukru's brother has been visiting and sleeping on our floor for the last few days..) so yes, if you are in medway area (or are able / willing to make the trip) you should come come come! there's free cake, zines and awesome lady tunes! we will catch up distro stuff at the weekend, promise.

oh dear. it's been a while since the last update. the vampire sushi 1st birthday celebrations didn't go to plan at all! five days after the last update, tukru went and fractured her wrist in three places at roller derby practice (not doing even anything exciting and aggressive! booface.) and we'd already sort of got horribly behind distro stuff anyway. so we decided to close shop til tukru's arm was better & stuff. well, the cast has been off for 2 and a half weeks now, and she's better after 6 weeks off work spent mostly watching 6 seasons of buffy the vampire slayer. we have now caught up on everything (thank fuck) PLUS we've got a whole lot of new zines!! and some back in stock too.

It's got a horror theme and is pretty much the most unpretentious art zine ever made. they've cut down tukru's hours at her day job so she has days off during the week (no more free weekends though, but who gives a crap about weekends anyway.. at least you can get shit done during weekday days off.) & we've got the zine bit of our house a bit more organized (we'll see how long that lasts though, tukru's pretty messy!) so hopefully we will be more on the ball with getting orders out quicker and stuff. though it might not help much since somehow britain is covered in snow and the english postman cannot deal with a bit of snow. + it's christmas. so might have to expect some delays at least.

hello darlings! sorry about the lack of updates etc. the last month or so has been a bit of a bad one in the vampire sushi household, but things should be getting back on track now. it is so unpleasant when the real world gets in the way of the zine world! we've got a bunch of new zines, and some old zines back in stock and as usual there is more coming in soon! and we've got badges! brand new lovely vampire sushi and other badges our friend vicky of tiny badges made for us. hopefully some day soon most of the catalogue will have descriptions too! we're a bit useless at them, doesn't seem like our words would do justice all the lovely zines we distro. also, it has been almost exactly one year + a month since we decided to start this little distro! still going strong <33<3
there's an excellent little zine fest at the women's library in london on the 12th june. we were going to table this year, but unfortunately we can't make it after all because of that real world mentioned before. but this doesn't mean you shouldn't go if you can! however we will be tabling at the next GIRL GERMS on friday 25th june, and tukru will also be djing + celebrating her 28th birthday which is on the saturday. but more info about that laterz!

Girls Germs is a grrrl-tastic night of music, zines, cakes and dancing. We'll be playing le tigre, Bratmobile, Sleater-Kinney, The Slits, Gossip, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bikini Kill, M.I.A. and plenty of other amazing tunes by amazing grrrls. It's a celebration of women's creativity, proof that girls making music is more than just a faddy trend.
This time, Girl Germs has gone back to everyone's favourite decade, the 90's! Let's pretend riot grrrl is just revving up, and Courtney Love is throwing make-up at Madonna. Dust off your babydoll dress and get ready to dance like it's 1994!
There'll be free cakes, zines from the brilliant Vampire Sushi distro (http://www.vampiresushi.co.uk/) and 90's grrrl classics on the stereo.

this month has been a bit hectic real lifewise (imagine working in a toy shop in december. doing all their mail order stuff. with 150 orders every day. people asking impatient dumb questions all day long. working at least 8.30am - 5.30pm, if not til 8pm.. absolutely shattered..) it looks like any new / existing orders will be sent out after christmas, when the post office opens again. if there's any christmas present orders, let us know and we'll make an exception, though i think monday's last post day for anything..

both southampton zine fest & crafty deaf cat went good. met lovely people, sold a bunch of zines. that's why there are a fair few zines we've only got one left or they're temporarily sold out, got to get re-ordering stuff. again, it seems everything we got back in stock the other day has sold out already.. there should be another crafty deaf cat on 16th december, same bat-time, same bat-place.

first, we'll be at the SOUTHAMPTON CRAFT & ZINE FAIR at the Art House Southampton (178 Above Bar Street, Southampton, SO14 7DW) on saturday 21st November, sadly not on sunday because there are no cheapy megabus/trains on sundays.. we'll probably also bring some screen printed t-shirts & other crafts with us!
and then, we'll be at the CRAFTY DEAF CAT, a little craft fair at the deaf cat coffee bar (Penfold House, 10 High Street, Rochester, Kent ME1 1PT) on thursday 26th November, 6.00 - 8.00pm. there will be coffee, cake and fairylights too! and we definitely should have new zines in stock by then..
